With the perceived increase in the risk of home intrusions and burglary, many people are investing in a safe for the home to keep their most important valuables secure. Yet a safe may also be broken into, and sometimes very easily. This has led to the incorporation of biometric technology to home safes to increase their security.
For those that are currently unaware, biometrics is the use of traits that are unique to an individual to act as a key or password, locking or unlocking doors or computers as well as many other applications that are currently in use. It commonly includes such things as the scanning of fingerprints to ensure that the person attempting to gain access to whatever the biometrics are protecting, actually has permission to access it.
A biometric fingerprint safe may be programmed for more than one authorised fingerprint, and surprisingly the costs of such items is not particularly high with the base line units being very reasonable in price. In fact a biometric fingerprint safe may be programmed with a hundred or more fingerprints, making it ideal for a business in which many people need to access the safe. This is vastly more convenient than having to issue every individual with a key!
A small biometric safe will protect your valuables, but if it is small enough then there is a risk that a burglar may simply carry it off to work on opening it later on. A biometric wall safe will be a safer option for this reason, as it’s removal will be harder. They often come pre-drilled so that afixing them to wall joists before finishing the wall around them is easier work, allowing you to quickly install them.
Once you have your biometric wall safe fitted in place the only thing left to do is decide what you wish to store in it. This will largely depend upon the size of the safe that you bought and what valuables you have, but commonly they would be used to house expensive jewellery or items of sentimental value that may be irreplaceable. A larger biometric safe may be purchased to store more sensitive items such as those that provide personal protection or even highly dangerous medications such as in a household with children.
Another advantage of using biometrics, is that if you need to get to an secure item that will provide your family’s protection in the event of a break in and it is stored inside your safe, you would not nee to worry about fumbling around in the dark looking for and attempting to insert a key. A friend of mine keeps his biometric safe under his bed and says he can go from a sleeping position to opening the safe in approximately 6-8 seconds. This is very good time considering an intruder would have to enter the home and find his way in the dark to your family.
Regardless of how safe or unsafe a neighborhood you live in, anything can happen. A biometric safe can bring peace of mind to home owners who want to be sure that in the event of a break in, that their more important belongings will be safe and their familys safety will be preserved.
