Many homes today have refrigerators that have the freezer portion on the top of the unit. This type of setup often limits the size of the freezer space dramatically as most of the space on the appliance was dedicated to the refrigerator section. It is much more logical and economical to have one of many types of bottom freezer refrigerators instead, as they generally are much more spacious and are easier to access.
Considering your own habits, think for a minute how many times you open and close your refrigerator each day. You can probably easily say that you are in and out of your refrigerator up to 20 times a day or more. Consider now how many times you access the freezer. The number is most likely far less. Then why, logically, is the refrigerator section at the bottom of the appliance? You find yourself bending and squatting several times daily to see what is sitting on that bottom shelf or tucked into the produce drawers way down at nearly floor level. With bottom freezer refrigerators, the freezer section is down below and the refrigerated section is above. Makes perfect sense, don’t you agree? Not only is this type more convenient but it is much more energy efficient as well due to the fact that warm air rises. In these models the warmer part of the appliance is located at the top. This means that your freezer compartment is not being compromised by a constant flow of warm air, causing it to run harder which uses far more electricity.
Today many homeowners are discovering the benefits of bottom freezer refrigerators. Due to the increase in popularity, this type of fridge/freezer combo is now being made by most of the major appliance manufacturers. At this time of writing, these appliances seem to be in similar price ranges as the top freezer refrigerators…although they may be just slightly more also. The internet is a wonderful resource to use to research and find out more about the benefits and convenience this type of freezer/fridge combination offers.

My bottom freezer also has a built in ice maker which is a very nice option that I did not think existed for a bottom freezer unit.
