Carpet Shampooer – Can You Clean Your Carpet Too Often?

Tags

, , ,

Over time and with constant foot traffic, all houses will suffer a build up of difficult to remove dirt in the carpets, and houses with children and pets in them will be especially bad. In high traffic areas especially, a carpet shampooer can be of use.  However, is it possible to use a carpet shampooer too much?

The short answer is that Yes… its possible.  There are lots of variables, but if you have a lower quality carpet, and you clean it quite often (every 2 weeks lets say) it may unnecessarily wear out the carpet fibers faster.  This obviously shortens the life of the carpet and may cause a necessary carpet replacement earlier than anticipated.

A good and handy tip is to plan your carpet cleaning about every 2 1/2 – 3 months or so.   When doing so, it might even be possible to not use the detergent each time, but instead just use hot water.  If you have light soiling, just the hot water extraction alone can lift the dirt and create less damaging impact on your carpet due to less chemicals  being needed and also no requirement to go over the carpet multiple times to rinse the soap residue from the material. carpet-shampooer

And if you are new to the use of carpet shampooers for your home and have always hired outside professional cleaners, it might be a good idea to learn more about the whole process.   You can  be assured that cleaning your carpets yourself is often  no harder than using a upright vacuum. Most carpet shampoo machines will share similar features.

A tank will hold the cleaning solution, that has been diluted most commonly with very warm water. The tank is attached to jets at the bottom that are used to distribute the solution evenly into the carpet. Brushes on the machine help to scrub the carpet, either manually by moving the machine back and forth over the carpet or else the brushes may themselves rotate.

A pump will be used to suck the water out of the carpet through small inlets, now containing the dirt that was previously in the carpet. It will then be diverted to a dirty water tank where it will stay until the tank fills up and needs to be emptied.

The best carpet shampooer for you will depend upon the features that you want or need, and the size of areas of carpet that you want to clean. Larger machines and more powerful machines will clean larger carpets faster, and more powerful machines may be able to better pull the water back out of the carpet, so allowing them to dry more quickly. This in turn means that you will be able to go back to using the room again more quickly.

If you want convenience and the ability to both vacuum and clean with the same machine as you vacuum with, then you may wish to consider a hoover carpet shampooer. In this case the cleaning capability may be less than a dedicated carpet shampooer but it gives you the ability to quickly clean up small spills at the same time as taking care of other chores, and also means that you only have one machine to store rather than two.

A smaller, more portable hand held carpet shampooer is perfect for use on stairs and other difficult to reach areas. They may be cordless and rechargeable, running on internal batteries for short periods of time whilst you clean up pet stains or small spills.

Whatever your reason for choosing to buy a carpet shampooer, using it wisely will extend the life and the looks of your carpets for years to come.
