Wood Paneling – Not Just for Basements!

Wood Paneling – Still Ugly After All These Years?

If you want to add a new look to your office or your home, wood paneling is one popular solution. Options range in styles such as stone, bamboo, real painting, beadboard decorative and even wood ceiling planks and paneling. Wood paneling is very functional in either the home or the office. Its primary function is to act like a real wall in order to cover up an area or to divide it. Let us mention a few examples where they can be used. For example, if there is no wall between the kitchen and the living room, you might consider wood paneling to divide these two rooms. On the other hand, within the office you might consider paneling to add a private area for each of the employee. It can also be used for purposes such as hanging pictures and other similar purposes. Generally, there are two types of wood paneling. The first is for temporary use and can be easily moved. There are also types that are fixed permanently. Although primarily we are talking about paneling made of wood, some other materials such as plastic and metal are also available; however, wood is still the most common mainly because of its warm look and feel.

The type of panel used for decoration purposes is typically used not to create a new wall, but rather to cover an existing one. As such, you can easily implement contemporary patterns into interior home design. These decorative panels are available in many finishes, textures, colors and more.

Regarding wall paneling, there are some substrates available such as why plywood, engine wood, medium-density fiberboard, hardboard and others. They can be installed in any room in a home. There are also wood grain finished panels, beadboard panels, decorative finishes or wainscoting as well as many others.  There are also many decorative panels that have characteristics of natural wood.

Tongue and Groove Wood Paneling

Although there are many choices for paneling on the market, the most popular is tongue and groove – primarily since it is very easy to set up. Although there are many ways to install this, there are a few things you might want to consider. At the beginning of the project you should start at a bottom and nail in place one piece. Further, you should nail into the groove as well into the stud within the wall so the nail does not go into the paneling. Put the following panel up and repeat this step. If a piece goes past the stud, do nothing more but nail it and continue the work. Continue repeating these steps until you have finished the job. What you’ll get is a new wood look.
