Enjoy The Summer Afternoon in a Rocking Chair

Front Porch Rocker Rocking Chair

There’s nothing more relaxing and rewarding than resting after a hard day’s work. Rocking chairs, sometime called rockers, are the perfect fit for a lazy evening on the front porch.  Most people use rocking chairs to rock their baby to sleep, but they are also becoming incredibly popular for outdoor furniture.  There is no greater pleasure to contemplate life and gather your thoughts after a long and hectic day in a front porch rocker.

Many people only shop for rocking chairs based on price.   However, as with most things, not all rocking chairs are created the same.    The best thing that you can do is to test a rocking chair before actually purchasing it. Take at least 5 minutes and rock back and forth in it.   Listen to possible creaking sounds, as this may be an indication that the rocking chair wasn’t perfectly made. Especially shift your weight side to side to check the stability of the cross bracing on the chair. Of primary importance (but oft overlooked) is the proper fit of a chair to your body type.   Specifically check the height of the chair compared to your height and leg length. You wouldn’t something too high or too low as it may either hurt your knees or you might have difficulty getting in and out of the chair. Also check  the height with and without  cushions. Sitting on the chair for a long time might hurt your rear if there are no cushions. This is especially true for new mothers, who will want to wait for their babies to be asleep before actually getting out of the rocking chair. Also check if the cushions are removable or not. If they are, find out if you could have it machine washed for easy washing. If it’s not, then go for darker colors of fabric so it won’t get dirty easily.

Don’t worry if you can’t find the right rocking chair for you. You could easily have one custom made, which is even better as you can have the perfect measurements for your body. Some makers offer armless rocking chair, which is just perfect for musicians. Custom-made rocking chair may be a little expensive, but think of it as a family treasure. You could pass it to generations to come, and who knows? Your great, great grandson may be rocked in that very same chair?
