Finding The Right Refrigerator Freezer For A Green Home

New home owners often have many things they need to worry about after purchasing their home. Not always when you purchase a home, do the appliances stay behind.  Sometimes you will have to buy these items as soon as you move in. Finding the right refrigerator freezer for your home is important in helping save you money and fitting your family’s needs.

First thing you need to figure out is if you want to buy a used one or a new one. Used appliances, especially expensive ones such as bottom freezer refrigerators, come at a way cheaper price than new ones.  However they do usually have a  little wear and tear. Newer fridges are generally more expensive and can cost you upwards of a thousand or so dollars. Look at your budget and figure out what you can afford.

However used appliances can be a little harder to find if you are trying to get a hold of a good one. You can look in garage sale ads or on Craigslist for your area to see what is available. Also check out local auction houses which can have good condition refrigerator freezers for extremely cheap.  These auction houses  usually list appliances as the result of an estate sale and many times people who attend such sales are only looking for antiques…not common household items.

Figuring out how much space you are going to need is an important factor also. If you have a smaller family, you are not going to need a large refrigerator. Larger refrigerators take more energy to run than smaller ones, so find the perfect amount of space for your family.

If you are looking to save more energy and going green, getting a refrigerator freezer that does not have an ice maker is an easy way to cut costs. Ice makers can take up to 20% more energy than a normal refrigerator. You always have the old fashioned way of making ice.

Bottom freezer refrigerators are a wonderful option when choosing a refrigerator freezer. They can save more electricity than other side by side models. They use about 16% less electricity compared to other models. This is a wonderful option if you are looking to save on your electric bill and/or go green at the same time.

A mini refrigerator freezer is perfect for hotel rooms, dorm rooms, or studio apartments where there is only one or two people living. With less people that need groceries, you are able to spend less on energy costs by finding a compact refrigerator freezer. Find the one that suits you and your needs best.
