Glass Top Dining Table – Not Your Average Table

Growing up, my friends grandmother would have us both over once or twice during the school year for a pasta fest.  She was Italian and wanted to teach both of us how to make pasta by hand.  Those were good times for the most part.  However, I remember one year my friend and I were screwing around in the kitchen and we got into a bit of a tussle.  Long story short, we were wrestling a bit too much and fell through the kitchen door way into the dining room and ran into the most prestigious item in the grandmothers’ home.  We bashed into her prized possession…a glass top dining table.   I still thank my lucky stars to this day that nothing happened to that table.  We both got hurt a little bit, but the table didn’t break, shatter, or quite honestly even move very much when we ran into it.   As a kid I was quite in awe by that table.  It seemed like it was about 8 feet long and made of solid 1 inch (I’m sure it wasn’t this thick) clear glass.  It was amazing.

Today, times haven’t changed that much for these types of tables.   If you are in fact looking for your own way to spice up your dining room, a glass top dining table is the way to really teach your kids not to mess with grandma ;-)    Many new styles of contemporary glass top dining tables look modern and sleek. Many of them are still the same style that my friends family had.  Believe it or not, old school is still acceptable in today’s crazy world.

I personally still think that one of the nicest things about a glass top dining table set is that they go well with everything. It doesn’t matter what the rest of the furniture in your house looks like, or what color your walls are, or what type of flooring you have. You will be able to find a glass table that looks good in your home. If you desire a change of scenery, simply switching out your solid wood version for a glass one can be all that you need to do to make a noticeable change. There is no need to go all out and change everything if you don’t have the time or money to do so.

As illustrated by my story of two wrestling kids running full steam into the glass table in my opening paragraph, I think another great thing about glass top dining tables is how sturdy they are and also how simple they are to maintain. In this second respect they have quite a few advantages over wooden dining tables. For one, you don’t need to worry about people setting their drinks directly on your table. A cup or mug will not leave one of those permanent unsightly rings on a glass top dining table. You also do not need to worry so much about anyone dinging or scratching your table surface. Cleaning is a breeze too. You do not need any special wood polishing products to maintain a glass top dining table. All you need to do to clean one is spray some glass cleaner on the surface and wipe it off. Your table will shine like new.

The base of the table can be made out of a number of materials, including wood, metal, and marble. The glass can be custom cut or pre-cut in a lot of different shapes and sizes. Glass dining tables can be rectangular, square, oval, or circular. They can big enough to seat four people, six people, or more. The one you choose will depend on how much usable space your home has,  many people will be dining at your table, the shape that you prefer, and the base material that will look best in your home.

All in all, adding a glass top dining table to your home can be a simple way to make a big change. This lovely addition to your home will make your dining room look more sophisticated and modern. If you choose to get one, you will likely save yourself time and worry in the long run because of the easy maintenance that glass top dining tables require. Choose wisely as you will presumably be eating at this table quite often!

Cleaning the glass top is not difficult at all.
Indeed, I have some tips to share.

You can actually clean your glass top by rubbing the surface with used newspaper.
Lots of people use wet tower mixed with detergent to remove dust from the glass table, but that won’t give long lasting protection to the glass. Trust me, you will be surprise using newspaper to rub on glass top will give you much better result. grand ma’s tips but always practical :)
