Latex Mattresses Provide Comfortable Sleeping

Latex mattresses are not a new product, but they are a superb product that has been in use in European countries for some time. Today, even top manufacturers like Sealy, who are well known for their inner spring mattress products, are now selling a line of latex mattresses. In fact, a natural latex mattress has been sold in the U.S. since the 1950′s, following development of synthetic latex during WW II. Latex mattresses are very durable and some last for decades, compared to the average 7 to 10 years lifespan of traditional mattresses.

Latex mattresses are made from either natural and synthetic latex or a combination of the two. The feel is very similar, although some claim that the natural latex mattresses have a little more spring to them. Natural latex is springy because it is a product made from the sap of living rubber trees. Synthetic latex mimics natural latex but is made from petrochemicals, so the natural latex may be preferred for being more eco-friendly. Natural products are also more expensive, but are from a renewable resource.latex-mattresses

Latex mattresses are produced in one of two ways, the Dunlop or Talalay method. The manufacturing process is technical, but basically involves taking liquid latex and whipping it into foam and then molding it and vulcanizing the foam. The synthetic foam has more consistent cells than the natural foam. Both types of foam are pierced with pincore holes to make the foam softer and more comfortable because it is extremely dense and firm.

The cores of some latex mattresses are constructed with foam containing different size holes for different comfort levels. Some mattresses have a series of different comfort zones, with firmer foam in the middle section to support the heaviest part of the body. Some mattresses also are constructed with additional layers on top of special comforting memory foam or softer latex foam. Foam mattresses are always thoroughly washed to rid them of any remaining soaps, oils or other substances and to reduce their rubbery smell.

The only way to determine which type of latex mattress you prefer is to try them out in the store. Most mattress sellers do offer a satisfaction guarantee that lasts for at least 30 days, and up to 180 days. For extra comfort, you can add a memory foam topper, which conforms to the body shape and offers the highest comfort possible.
