Make sure you that when you choose the  outside lighting for home, that they are suited for outdoor use. Never use any type of lighting fixture that is not intended for outdoor use. Finding the right lighting can be easy when you shop online. Most home improvement centers have websites with online stores where you can find a wide variety of lights for many different uses. If you are looking to light up the front of your home, and also add a touch of elegance, you can use lamp posts with several globes of various styles, sizes, and shapes. You can use outdoor wall sconces, and mount them on the front of your home, or pillars at the edge of your steps or front gate. Also there are some incredible outdoor lighting fixtures for decks that mount flush with the planking and basically are integrated as part of your actual construction.

You can also buy solar outside lights for areas that don’t have wiring or outlets. This type of outdoor lighting gets its energy from the sun. Solar lights use solar panels to capture the suns energy, and store it in batteries to be used at night. Solar outside lights can provide approximately 8 to 10 hours of light every night. Of course, it depends on what region you live in, or how much sun you get during the day. If you have a shady area where you would like to have outside lighting fixtures, your best bet would be to buy electrical fixtures instead of solar lights.  Of course if this is not possible because an outlet is not convenient, then the key to getting your solar lights to work consistently and shine brightly is to make sure you always recharge the batteries fully.

Outside light fixtures can also be controlled by a switch from inside where you can turn them off during the day, and on at night. You can also buy lighting fixtures that have an automatic sensor that turns them on at dusk and off at dawn. Most solar lighting products have this feature and its very convenient in that you never have to worry about turning them on or off.   It just happens automatically.

If you plan on installing several lighting fixtures, make sure you have ample power in your backyard to support the amount of fixtures. Consult an electrician and have a separate breaker box or possibly just a new circuit installed for your outdoor lighting. This way if one of the fixtures shorts out and trips, you will still have power inside your home.  This really isn’t that difficult a project, however if you are not very handy, you may call upon a local handyman who can assist you for a modest fee.  If the lighting that you are installing is a large project, than you may do well to call a licensed and certified electrician.  No matter what it costs, its cheaper than an improperly wired system that can cause a fire.
