Skylight Blinds Are Perfect Window Treatments For Skylight Windows

Why Skylight Blinds?

Within your house there might be one or more rooms that have a skylight installed so that the sun shines directly into the room from overhead.  Most of the time, a skylight is put into a home for this exact reason…to let light shine in.  However, sometimes there may be a situation where it would be nice to filter or even block the light from coming in through the skylights.  Skylight blinds offer a handy solution to this situation.

One situation that has personally happened to me is having my office in a spare bedroom where a skylight is installed. During certain times of the day the direct beams of light will shine right into my face, and at other times of the day the light will shine directly into my computer monitor making it virtually impossible to see anything on the screen.  After doing a bit of research, I found that some blind manufacturers create blinds especially for this purpose.  The bottom line for me is simply being able to work more easily and continue to use this room as my office. I had no other practical option other than skylight blinds. What is excellent about them is that they are not only effective  in stopping the sunlight from pouring into my home, but they can all also be used as a nice decorative feature.   There are many types of these blinds on the market, so it should not be difficult to find something that will fit your house design and fulfill your needs.

Motorized Skylight Blinds

Also, since we are talking about the blinds that can be found on the market, it is also nice to know that there are some models that have motorized blinds  implemented into them. What this means is that the blinds will raise and lower automatically instead of needing manual adjustment in the morning and evening.  No ladders or long handles needed. Obviously,  if you have very high skylight windows, this could be  an excellent solution.

I have already mentioned my reasons why I chose these types of blinds, but let us further discuss a few other possible reasons why skylight blinds are fine choices for other homes. First, they can effectively lower your energy bills by saving the energy required for heating as well as for cooling. If you have a model that has an automatic motor for controlling the rising and lowering of the blinds, these usually have remote controls so it will be very easy to operate them. They also can be used somewhat as a poor man’s  noise-reduction solution, and they may be very handy if you live in a place where there is a lot of noise coming from outside; as such, they may be especially useful for people living in high-traffic areas.

Other Styles of Skylight Blinds

There are many different styles that can be found on the market regarding patterns, colors and more, but generally there are some better rated producers of skylight blinds. So when purchasing them, consider these brands: Comfortex, Velux, Hunter Douglas, Graber and Bali. If you’re buying blinds from any of these manufacturers, you can be sure that they are dependable and are of high quality.

Also, during the purchasing process you should consider whether there are replacement parts available; additionally, you should check to see if there is a warranty. You can buy these products online, but you can also visit your nearest home improvement store to find something that will fit your tastes.

Prices and costs of skylight blinds vary widely but in general you’re looking at several hundreds of dollars for a good quality skylight blind that fits well and will last for a long time. Also if you get the motorized blinds with remote control features the price will go up even further.  If you are like me though, the price you’ll pay now will be worth it in the long run as you can continue to use your room comfortably and recoup your costs from the skylight blinds purchase over time.
