Need Extra Space to Sleep? Use an Inflatable Mattress!
We have all had those situations where we go out with friends, have a good time, almost too good of a time, and are not in the position to drive home and need a place to sleep. Or those times when you have unexpected family members stop by on their way through town and are hoping to rest their head in your humble abode for the night. Unfortunately you may not be equipped with spare rooms and extra beds. Perhaps it’s because your house is small or you are simply limited on space. This is when an inflatable mattress saves the day.
The beautiful thing about an inflatable mattress is that they can be relatively inexpensive. Usually for under 100 dollars or so, you can have a decent place for everyone to sleep. After all, if you only have guests stop by on occasion then it does not make much sense to spend $500 or more on a regular mattress. If you do tend to use the portable mattress often, or will even take the inflatable mattress with you on camping trips or when going on vacation then you may want to invest in a little bit higher quality one….and preferably with a built in air pump. Air mattresses with pumps make setup a snap and definitely beats filling it up manually or with a hand pump. Below are a few great quality mattresses to check out and vary in size as well as price.
Three Good and Cheap Inflatable Mattress Choices
Intex Raised Downy Queen Airbed with Built-in Electric Pump
has a lot of great reviews. It inflates and deflates easily by using a high powered electric pump that is built in. To provide great support it has a lower chamber that functions the same way a box spring does on a standard bed. This bed can handle up to 600 pounds and costs around $60.
Want a bed with a little more versatility?
Coleman 4-in-1 Quickbed
This inflatable mattress is perfect for those unexpected overnight visitors because it can accommodate either one or two people separately or a couple together. You can use this bed to accommodate two individual sleepers by turning it into two twin beds or you can zip the bed together to transform it into a king sized airbed. Perhaps you only have one guest but they want additional comfort and cushion? You can stack the twin beds on top of each other and when secured in place turns into a tall comfortable twin bed. With great reviews and only a cost of about $40, you can’t go wrong with this bed.
If you need just a simple, inexpensive and quick inflatable bed then take a look at the..,
Intex Prestige Downy Twin Airbed Kit
It has a 300 pound capacity and perfect for kid’s sleepovers, camping or those nights when your friends just need a place to crash. For roughly $20 it is a great deal and you may want to consider buying a few.
What about the AeroBed Inflatable Mattress?
Another very common inflatable mattress brand is AeroBed. Are AeroBed inflatable mattresses any good? We are going to take the “road less traveled” and say that we think AeroBed is a bit overpriced when comparing with other similar featured brands. As you probably know from this home improvement blog, we usually let our partner Amazon customers do the “talking” for us and you’ll see that most of the reviews found on Amazon.com mention that the beds are “ok” but the cost was a more than other inflatable mattresses with similar quality and durability. We do think AeroBed does a terrific job of marketing their product though, and that is why you hear about them (and subsequently don’t hear about the lesser known brands) so much. Price for value favors other lesser known brands, but there’s no denying that AeroBed is the most popular inflatable mattress brand right now.
So to summarize, there are a lot of inflatable mattress options on the market. If you stick to the basics like size, weight limit, whether or not an electric pump is included or not, etc. we think you can’t go wrong. Just make sure to check out a few online retailers for prices and options. If you tend to have guests stay the night often you may want to invest in one or two mattresses so you can accommodate those unexpected situations. Nothing says you love your friends and family like providing them a place to sleep (like a comfy inflatable mattress!) for the night.
